UNDERSTANDING OUR BODY
In many instances, through lack of education and awareness, we end up with a lifestyle - a way of living - that is not supportive of our body’s health and well-being. Consequently, our body may end up burdened with health issues that develop out of a lack of understanding of how to care for it.
When we look at our health and well-being it is important to include not only our physical health, but our mental, emotional and spiritual health as well as they all have a vital and equal part in our lives. If we take the time to care for the overall health of our body and we injure ourselves, or develop an illness, we will have a much stronger foundation to support us as we heal.
Caring for ourselves in every moment is a must if we want to feel strong and vital, and to enjoy the life we are living and the people in our lives.
Holding onto emotions that have us feeling sad, angry, frustrated have been shown to have a negative impact on not only our body’s health, but also our mental health, whereas feeling joyful and loving the life we are living has a wonderfully positive impact on our overall health and that of our environment. To have support in the challenging times is so important, as is asking for help when you need it and being able to share what is going on for you.
It is also important to not see the body in its separate parts but as a whole, with each organ, muscle, blood vessel and particle intricately connected and all working together in every moment in time. We are not just a sore knee, or a broken arm, we are a whole organism and need to treat ourselves as such. We are also part of a much larger universal order and our body naturally knows the rhythm of this order and how to be in harmony with it.
For example: We may have a sore knee but the initial problem could be from our hip and the way we have been walking, and the way we are walking could be from the way we are feeling (anxious, sad, angry etc) so to heal the knee the primary issues will need to be dealt with as well if the healing is to be complete.
